PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The primary functions include studying specifications from engineering drawings or models and determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts. Must have knowledge, skills, and abilities to prepare machine tools, fixtures, jigs, and apply tool design, shop mathematics, metal properties, and machining capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the Major Responsibilities, including the following:

• Machines and/or reworks parts with minimal supervision.
• With assistance, computes dimension, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
• Operates machine tools, such as lathes, mills, shapers, and grinders.
• Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances, using measuring instruments including, dial indicators, calipers, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, micrometers, etc.
• May examine standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommend design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
• Studies routers to determine machining to be done.
• Grinds parts to fit. Sets up and operates surface grinder to grind surface of parts.
• Runs Bridgeport for various operations. Assembles parts into product and verifies dimensions and alignments.
• Tests assembled mechanism and verifies to assembly dimensions, gages, etc.
• Checks cosmetics on parts produced.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

One-year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
