Legal Billing Specialist
Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented billing specialist to support its billing and finance team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Accurately and efficiently process complex legal billing in accordance with client fee arrangements, including discounts, split billing, and electronic billing requirements.
Ensure full compliance with the firm’s billing policies, procedures, and monthly billing cycle deadlines.
Maintain accuracy and integrity of billing system data, including billing lists, rules, and client-specific exceptions.
Generate, review, and revise client pre-bills (BIMs) in coordination with attorneys and legal support staff.
Transfer or adjust charges to ensure proper client/matter allocation.
Work directly with leading eBilling platforms (e.g., Legal Tracker, TyMetrix, Collaborati) to prepare, submit, and troubleshoot electronic invoices.
Ensure timely distribution of final bills and monitor submission status to avoid delays or rejections.
Communicate professionally with attorneys, clients, and legal assistants regarding billing requirements and guidelines.
Respond to internal inquiries related to timekeeping and billing processes.
Perform other related duties as needed within the billing team.
Requirements:
Associate’s degree in accounting, business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 1 year general accounting or related professional experience required.
Prior legal billing experience—particularly with eBilling systems—strongly preferred.
Experience working with legal accounting or billing software is highly desirable.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced law firm environment.
Ability to analyze billing histories and conduct basic financial analysis with accuracy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
Familiarity with eBilling platforms and LEDES billing formats.
Exceptional attention to detail and strong numeric aptitude.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys and staff.
Demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships and contribute as a cooperative team member.
