The Traffic Department at AKRF is seeking a Traffic/Transportation Engineer to be based out of the Stamford, CT or White Plains, NY office. This individual will serve a key function in helping our local, municipal clients develop advanced traffic signal systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems as well as design Complete Streets projects, sidewalks and bike lanes, linear roadway improvements, drainage improvements and other capital improvements projects to make our roadways safer and more efficient for all road users. Job Responsibilities:

  • Work within a team of professionals to develop traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for various transportation projects.
  • Conduct comprehensive traffic impact studies to assess the effects of new developments or changes in transportation infrastructure.
  • Perform traffic modeling to simulate and analyze traffic flow and patterns, helping to predict and solve potential issues.
  • Develop, analyze, and evaluate traffic improvement plans to enhance roadway safety and efficiency.
  • Design traffic signals including Intelligent Transportation Systems such as Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP), Transit Signal Priority (TSP) and Adaptive Traffic Control Systems (ATCS).
  • Design roadways and intersections, ensuring they meet safety standards and accommodate traffic flow effectively.
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity in presenting findings and recommendations.
  • Actively participate in meetings to share ideas with clients, consultant partners, and other stakeholders
  • Prepare and deliver analysis findings, concerns, and recommendations clearly and concisely to clients and stakeholders.
  • Manage small to mid-size projects or serve as a task leader, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the client's satisfaction.

Essential Requirements:

  • 3-5 years experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Strongly prefer NYS or CT PE (or the ability to obtain the PE licensure).
  • Experience with Westchester County, Connecticut, and/or local municipalities and agencies preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Skilled in the preparation of trip generation and traffic impact analyses
  • Working knowledge of the MUTCD, AASHTO, HCM, ITE Trip Generation and guidelines.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Microstation
  • Working knowledge of traffic engineering and planning software, such as HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, Aimsum, AutoTurn.
  • Familiarity with Traffic Signal Design. Knowledge of Connecticut DOT and/or New York State DOT guidelines and standards is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Compensation will range from $80K to $100K, and commensurate with experience.
