Job Description
Position Summary: The Senior Staff Accountant will prepare financial statements, including but not limited to, Statement of Activities, Statement of Financial Position, and Cash Flow for specific client load. The Senior Staff Accountant prepare forecasts, budgets, and other reporting, as necessary. The Staff Accountant should have a full understanding of accounting principles and ensure all financials are accurate. In addition, this position is also responsible for development of Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
● With the support of a Client Manager, act as an outsourced Senior Staff Accountant for specific assigned client(s), advising these leaders and Boards on matters pertaining to financial and operational policies, strategic decisions, and long-term financial planning.
● Work with specific clients supporting timely, accurate Month End Closes. This includes all aspects of month end close, including but not limited to journal entries, review of financial statements, proper reclasses, as needed, balance sheet reconciliations, financial reports, etc.
● Work with multiple sets of books assigned by manager.
● Proper and timely recognition of revenue from federal, state and local sources in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
● Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for all accounts, including supporting documentation and work papers on monthly basis.
● Prepare month end packages including Statement of Activities, Statement of Financial Position, Cash Flow, and other reporting, as needed.
● Prepare adjusting journal entries, as needed.
● Prepare Quarterly Financials for State Reporting, if applicable.
● Prepare Annual Financial Reports for State Reporting, if applicable.
● Manage Year End Close and Audit schedules, financials, etc. with support from Client Manager when needed.
● Responsible for external audits. Oversees and manages the audit process for specific clients. Communicates to external auditors and manages, coordinates and integrate the work of the Accounting Team, Payroll Team, and Client to a successful audit conclusion. Responds to auditor’s comments concerning finances and operations and addresses any deficiencies.
● Work with the Accounting Team to ensure that payroll, accounts payable and purchasing documents processed efficiently, accurately and in a timely manner by ensuring the proper documents, receipts, and forms are available.
● Ensure that disbursements of funds are within budgetary authorization limits.
● Prepares Grant Budgets for all required grants.
● Prepares, reviews, and submit periodic grant drawdown requests, following all applicable federal, state and local requirements, to ensure the receivables are relieved appropriately and timely.
● Ensure proper coding of all grants.
● Reconcile general ledger accounts.
● Prepares budgets and forecasts for clients.
● Prepares multi year budgets and cash flow projections.
● Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
● Assists in building various models needed for reporting.
● Maintains forecast models and update forecasts as needed. Ensures accuracy of all forecast projections.
● Manage accounting and financial systems and maintain full and accurate accounting records.
● Prepare special financial reports as requested by management by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
● Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with financial legislation, policies and procedures.
● Analyze and implement best practices in financial accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and productivity.
● Conduct financial analysis, as needed.
● Maximizes return, and limits risk, on cash by minimizing bank balances, reviewing investments, if applicable.
● Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
● Provide development and informal oversight of Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists, as necessary.
● May oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of assigned Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists, as necessary.
Required Skills/Abilities:
● Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
● Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
● Highly proficient with accounting software.
● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
● Highly Proficient in Excel skills.
● Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
● Ability to problem-solve and multi-task.
● Strong Analytical ability.
Education & Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA or MBA preferred.
● Five years of previous work experience of public or government accounting experience, and demonstrate knowledge of financial reporting and budgeting, payroll, procurement, and internal controls.
Hours & Travel: This position requires occasional travel determined by client needs.
