Job Overview: Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for a Prosthetist and Orthotist (ABC) in our Headquarters location. The Prosthetist and Orthotist (ABC) provides direct and indirect orthotics care for patients. The Prosthetist & Orthotist assists physicians with prescription criteria, attends clinic and provides in-services for the clinic staff as specified by the Director of O&P. The practitioner also fabricates devices and directs the technicians in the fabrication of prosthetics and orthotics devices, assuring an organized and orderly work flow with reasonable delivery dates of devices to patients. The person in this role follows all federal, state and professional standards requirments regarding the provision of care and the compliance documentation thereof. Responsibilities: Acts as a resource to physicians, patients, families, and other medical care providers in the area of Orthotics Attends outpatient and case conferences, offering information and recommendations in the formulation of a prescription. Leadership: Adaptability Adapts to changes in the environment in a positive, proactive manner; leads staff in accepting and embracing change. Arranging Work Schedule to Accommodate Work Flow Demonstrating the ability to prioritize and maintain a feasible work flow while keeping with established deadlines for each assigned tasks. Assists Director in providing technical training and assists in professional development of the technical staff regarding technical issues Trains technicians in proper fabrication procedures. Provides technical advice to practitioners, when consulted. Works to find new and creative ways to improve technical and physical outcomes utilizing materials and fabrication techniques. Clinical Coordination of department services results in on-going, measurable improvements related to physical and/or psychosocial patient outcomes. Develops realistic goals & implements plan of care based upon initial and ongoing assessment, psychosocial, physical, developmental, and discharge needs of our patient population. Performs duties involving the use, measurement, fabrication, fit and care of appliances required by the burn injured population. Reports and documents patient care per departmental standards. Appropriately anticipates potential clinical problems and takes definitive steps to prevent complications. Sets priorities for the delivery of care and recognizes the needs of our patient population: infants, preschool children, school-age children, adolescents, & early adults. A role model for family centered care. Documentation Accurate and timely completion of ALL required POPS compliance documentation in OPIE, for the provision of care. Practitioners are also responsible for placing replenishment orders in OPIE purchasing for any items taken out of inventory for patient use. Responsible for clinical evaluations in the discipline, attends clinical conferences Attends all conferences on patients assigned to him/her on clinic days. Conveys findings of assessment of patients to other team members. Helps in development of treatment plans, including prescription of prosthesis. Writes reports for medical records. Qualifications: Experience: 1 year of clinical and technical expertise in Orthotics and Prosthetics field required State License in Orthotics/Prosthetics required Experience with use of EMR (OPIE) software systems. Education: Master's Degree Orthotics & Prosthetics; OR Bachelor's Degree with ABC Approved O&P Certificate program; OR Bachelor's Degree with current Florida state license (or eligible) plus successful completion of ABC certification exam - required BLS preferred ABC in O&P preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Managerial skills to direct and aid technicians in the fabrication of orthotic devices. Communication skills to effectively work with physicians, patients / families, all members of the healthcare team, employees, students, and volunteers. Professional appearance and behavior. Able to work with chemicals; able to work safely with equipment and infection controls. Must willingly accept additional responsibilities. Able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the hospital. Working knowledge of the physical and psychosocial development needs of infants, toddlers, school age, adolescent, and young adults in the environment of care. Shriners Children's
