PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER I – CENTRAL VALLEY DISTRICT/SAN JOAQUIN SECTOR/ MILLERTON LAKE STATE RECREATION AREA

Post & Bid : This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

The reporting location for this position is Millerton Lake State Recreation Area in Friant, CA.

Under supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor, the Park Maintenance Worker I performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair of park systems and facilities. The incumbent may act as a lead person for other staff and work crews. Performs semi-skilled and manual labor to maintain and repair buildings, structures, campsites, picnic facilities, roads, parking areas, trails, fixtures, water and sewer systems, irrigation systems, performs carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work on facilities. Installs signs, fences, repairs roads, lays asphalt and clears culverts. Uses power and hand tools in the accomplishment of the work.

The incumbents work schedule will be Saturday to Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position is designated as not telework eligible.

Working Conditions

Work Environment:

Work outdoors in various types of weather; work in unpleasant conditions (e.g., bad weather, around sewage). Work  in hazardous situations (e.g., around raw sewage, chemicals). Works at elevated heights or near fast moving  machinery or traffic.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

  • Duties performed may require the utilization of a 32-pound self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Physical Abilities:

Ability to perform manual labor (e.g., digging, trenching, lifting, carrying, loading). Requires repetitive movement of heavy objects. Ability to walk across uneven terrain in both uphill and downhill conditions to perform the duties associated with the job. Stand for long periods of time (up to 2 hours) to perform the duties associated with the job.

  • Cognitive Abilities:

Read, write, and speak in a clear and concise manner. Develop practical solutions to problems to make sound decisions. Perform basic mathematical computations associated with assigned duties. Make sound decisions given available information and situational parameters. Skill to utilize measurements (e.g., tsp, tbsp, quart) to measure, mix and apply various chemical solutions.

  • Weekend coverage is required for this position. 

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) , this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR .
