Job Description

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Constantly and consistently exhibit Ocean House core values and standards of behavior including adherence to the Forbes 5-Star standards.
• Proactively greet guests warmly and provide a pleasant and comfortable dining experience.
• Maintain a current knowledge of menu items, basic ingredients and preparation methods in order to be able to describe selections as well as answer guest questions.
• Have basic understanding of wine pairings.
• Communicate effectively with banquet captain to ensure guest experience is as enjoyable and effortless as possible.
• Engage guests with a pleasant greeting and take drink orders if required in accordance with Ocean House dining service standards.
• Ensure service is performed in a timely, efficient yet comfortable manner in order to maintain proper pace of service.
• When drink and food orders are ready to be served, deliver to table in a pleasant manner.
• Refresh water and drinks as necessary.
• Evaluate the dining status of guests in order to ensure the proper timing of clearing used china, glass and silver, and service of following course.
• Assist busser in clearing used items as necessary to ensure desired pace of service is maintained.
• Provide a warm farewell and invite guests to return again soon.

Secondary Responsibilities:

• Complete required reports and paperwork after each function as directed by supervisor.
• Maintain room number and credit card information control and confidentiality.
• Other duties as assigned.

Past Work Experience:

• Prior hotel or equivalent guest service experience preferred.
• Food server experience required, preferably in a fine dining food & beverage environment.

Communication:

• Exceptional ability to engage in friendly, polite conversation even if the guest becomes upset.
• Must speak clearly and understandably and write legibly.
• Exceptional conversation skills.

Physical Requirements:

Environment: Performance of duties occurs primarily indoors in temperature controlled setting but may require service in outdoor settings with exposure to the elements.

Body Mechanics: Position will be primarily performed standing and requires constant walking, carrying and lifting up to 40 pounds or more. May require use of computer equipment. Ocean House Management
