Design Assistant - Apparel

Bernardo Fashions, a leader in Outerwear, is seeking a Design Assistant who has sportswear

garment construction experience that is highly-motivated, hard-working, and a detail-oriented

team player. The suitable candidate must be extremely proactive, work with a high level of

efficiency in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and

multitask between Sales/Design and have a strong willingness to learn. 

Responsibilities for this role 

• Collaborate with the Head Design to conceptualize and develop seasonal collections that reflect market trends, customer preferences, and brand objectives.
• Assist in creating detailed technical sketches, CADs, and design boards for presentations and production handoffs.
• Work closely with the Sourcing and Production teams to select fabrics, trims, and other materials that meet design and quality standards as an Associate Designer.
• Assist with shipping out fabric cuttings to factories when requested.
• Assist with shipping out samples to overseas for sourcing use.
• Assist Sales during market week appointments in showroom with taking detailed notes.

Qualifications for this role

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in fashion design, preferably with exposure to sportswear apparel and some outerwear jackets.
• Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and 3Dclo
• Strong understanding of garment construction, textiles, and production processes
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Creative problem-solving skills and a strong eye for detail.

Salary Range: $70K-$75K

This is an in-person position in our NYC office 5 days per week
