Overview

Our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) is seeking a highly qualified Pharmacy Consultant to oversee and optimize the operations of our in-house pharmacy. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of opioid use disorder, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), DEA, and pharmacy regulations, specifically within the Florida context.

Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all Florida state and federal pharmacy laws, regulations, and guidelines related to OTPs.
  • Pharmacy Operations: Oversee the daily operations of the in-house pharmacy, including inventory management, medication distribution, and quality control.
  • Medication Management: Develop and implement medication management protocols, including prescribing, dispensing, and monitoring of MAT medications (e.g., methadone, buprenorphine).
  • Patient Care: Collaborate with medical providers to optimize patient care through medication therapy management and education.
  • Staff Training: Provide ongoing training and education to pharmacy staff on medication safety, handling, and dispensing procedures.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality assurance programs to ensure the accuracy and safety of pharmacy operations.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Consultation: Serve as a subject matter expert on pharmacy-related matters, providing guidance to the OTP leadership team.

Qualifications

  • PharmD degree required.
  • Active Florida pharmacy license.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmacy practice, with a strong preference for experience in opioid treatment programs or substance abuse treatment settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of Florida pharmacy laws and regulations, particularly those pertaining to OTPs and DEA.
  • Proven ability to manage and optimize pharmacy operations.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in opioid treatment or addiction pharmacy.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of medication-assisted treatment (MAT) principles and practices.

Additional Considerations:

  • Given the sensitive nature of opioid treatment, consider conducting thorough background checks on potential candidates.
  • Offer competitive compensation and benefits packages to attract qualified candidates.
  • Provide opportunities for professional development and continuing education.

By following these guidelines, you can develop a comprehensive job description that effectively attracts and selects qualified pharmacy consultants for your OTP.
