Time Commitment: 1530 hours/week

Location: Washington, DC

Schedule: Hybrid, 2 days onsite per week

Generation Hope is a nonprofit organization with a mission to ensure all student parents have the opportunities to succeed and experience economic mobility by engaging education and policy partners to drive systemic change and providing direct support to teen parents in college as well as their children through holistic, two-generation programming. To date, we have provided over $1.3 million in tuition assistance, supported almost 500 teen parents in college, celebrated almost 200 degrees earned through our program, and built relationships with 30+ two- and four-year institutions nationwide.

Position

The Communications & Marketing Intern will support Generation Hopes communications team in developing and implementing innovative marketing and media strategies that amplify our mission and reach. This internship will provide hands-on experience in communications strategy, content creation, event planning, and campaign execution.

Intern responsibilities may include supporting new media marketing initiatives, creating graphics and other digital assets, managing web and social content, and assisting with the planning and execution of Generation Hope events. The intern will also have the opportunity to design and implement a communications project of their choosing, such as developing a new content series, testing new audience engagement strategies, or creating multimedia resources.

Interns will work a flexible schedule. Generation Hope operates on a hybrid schedule with two days in the office per week. Candidates must be able to participate in this internship at least 15 hours weekly. Start and end dates are flexible; ideal candidates will be available January 2026 May 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Support communications team with marketing strategies, campaigns, and event promotion

  • Assist with Generation Hopes web content management and updates

  • Create social media and digital content (posts, graphics, short videos)

  • Conduct research to inform communications and media strategy

  • Contribute to newsletters, press releases, and other organizational writing projects

  • Assist with design and development of graphics, presentations, and collateral materials

  • Support event planning and management, including promotional materials and onsite coordination

  • Track communications metrics and contribute to reports on campaign effectiveness

  • Participate in weekly staff and team meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, public relations, public policy, or a related field from an accredited college or university (completed or in progress)

  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills

  • Experience with social media platforms and content creation

  • Familiarity with design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar (preferred)

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment

  • Personal and professional commitment to understanding and dismantling systemic and institutional racism

  • Strong interest in nonprofit communications, storytelling, and advocacy
