Chairperson, Department of Sociology and Anthropology The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Illinois State University invites applications for the position of Department Chair for a 12‑month, 5‑year renewable term, preferably beginning July 1, 2026. The chairperson reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and serves as the department’s chief administrative officer, responsible for providing vision and leadership, securing resources, fostering a collegial atmosphere conducive to teaching and research, and maintaining scholarly productivity. Responsibilities Provide vision and leadership for the department and represent the department within the college and the university. Secure resources, including budget management, to accomplish departmental goals. Teach one course per year and maintain scholarly productivity. Foster a collegial atmosphere that supports teaching, research, service, and student success. Balance the varied disciplinary needs of the department and support the core values of shared governance and diversity. Qualifications Leadership abilities and proven communication skills. Experience with budget management and departmental resource planning. Significant research and teaching accomplishments in sociology and anthropology or related disciplines.
