The Department of Physics in the College of Science and Mathematics at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applicants for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor to pursue a research program focusing on experimental research in the fields of Quantum Information Science to begin September 1, 2025. We will prioritize candidates whose research complements existing strengths in theoretical Quantum Science and Technology research within the department. Candidates whose research also has potential overlap with experimental research in the department (as an example: applications of quantum sensing to biophysics) are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant is expected to establish an externally funded research program, direct the research of students at the doctoral, masters, and undergraduate levels, and interact effectively with colleagues within the Physics Department and across the College of Science and Mathematics. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach and further develop the Quantum Information Certificate program we have established at UMass Boston. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree and relevant postdoctoral research experience.
We seek a colleague who will support our goal of ensuring an inclusive, equitable, and diverse workplace. A generous startup package will be provided to support the development of a strong research program. State-of-the-art research computing facilities, including several high-performance computing clusters are available to UMass Boston researchers, including local HPC clusters. Partnerships and collaborations with academic institutions and industry research laboratories in the Greater Boston area offer substantial opportunities for professional development.
