Job Description

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is a 501(c)3 grantmaking foundation that receives an annual Congressional appropriation in excess of $310 million and is governed by a private, bipartisan Board of Directors. This unusual arrangement positions NED to play a unique role as America's leading foundation for freedom, empowering the institution to be nimble, innovative, and risk-taking in support of democratic activists, civil society organizations, independent media, and the NED family core institutes (the International Republican Institute, the National Democratic Institute, the Center for International Private Enterprise, and the Solidarity Center).

We're seeking a Program Assistant, Eurasia to support NED's institutional strategy and integrated approach to grantmaking initiatives in this fast-evolving field, and help NED innovate in this complex sphere. This position is based in Washington, D.C.

Position Summary:

The Program Assistant will provide day-to-day administrative and programmatic support to the Eurasia regional program staff. This position reports to the Senior Director for Eurasia.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide general administrative support to the staff of the Eurasia team.
  • Provide administrative support to the Senior Director for Eurasia, to include calendar management, remote meeting setup, and other ad-hoc assistance.
  • Receive, process, and distribute incoming proposals and grantee materials.
  • Respond to general inquiries regarding the proposal process.
  • Track grant proposals in a database from the application stage onward, through their approval by the NED Board and the active grant period.
  • Help organize meetings, roundtables, and other events on Eurasia-related topics.
  • Provide logistical support for staff and grantee travel.
  • Provide programmatic support, as appropriate, to the team's Program Officers, Associate Director, and Senior Director.
  • Assist, as appropriate, in preparing proposal summaries, budgets, and related materials for considering and awarding grants to nongovernmental organizations working on democracy assistance programs in the Eurasia region.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications :
  • Bachelor's degree in international affairs, political science, international development, history, or a related discipline is required.
  • 0-2 years of administrative and/or programmatic experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience in grant making and democratic development is desirable.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of political and civil society issues in Russia, Central Asia, and/or the South Caucasus.
  • Fluency (oral and written) in Russian is required; knowledge of a relevant regional language is desirable.
  • Related field experience in one or more countries in the region is desirable.
  • Experience working with databases and analyzing statistics is desirable.
  • Excellent writing, editorial, and oral communication ability.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • High degree of organization and initiative.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

This position is part of the NED Bargaining Unit.

Located in Washington, D.C., the salary range for this role is $45,500 - $ 60,625 USD , plus benefits. The final offer for a successful candidate will be determined by a combination of factors, including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, education, and market considerations.
